  1. Registration of Death.
  • Registration can be made between 5 days and 12 months is free of charge
  • Particulars of information will registered by a qualified informant who has knowledge of particulars and present at the death by
  • a)any relative of the deceased person present at the death or in attendance during his last illness;
  • (b) any other relative of the deceased residing or being in the district where the death occurred;
  • (c) any person present at the death;
  • (d) the occupier of the house if he knew of the happening of the death;
  • (e) any inmate of the house who knew of the happening of the death;
  • (f) The person causing the disposal of the body.
  • Registration is required supporting evidence such as
  • Medical certificate from hospital showing the cause of death or if death occur outside hospital the
  • Copy of death advertisement with BPA or
  • Burial certified by pastor or priest
  • Filing of papers received as proof of occurrence of death

  1. Death outside Kiribati
  • Where a person of I-Kiribati descent has died outside Kiribati the Registrar-General may, on application made under this section and on payment of the prescribed fee, enter the particulars of the death in the register of deaths as if the death had occurred in Kiribati.
  • An application under this section may be made by the father, mother, brother, sister, spouse or child of the deceased.
  • (3) No application under this section shall be considered except on provision to the satisfaction of the Registrar-General of the death certificate (or a duly certified copy thereof) from the country in which the person died certifying that the death has been registered in accordance with the laws of that country.
  • (4) All documents lodged with the Registrar-General under this section shall be filled separately and maintained and preserved as a supplement to the register to which it relates.
